New York City

I’d never want to live in NYC but it’s a great place to visit. I’ve been there several times in my life, the most recent in the fall of 2005. I think it’s cleaned up a lot over the years and is really easy to get around.

Here’s the skyline taken at sunset from an apartment in New Jersey. The apartment was an average 3 bedroom renting for $3000/month and that’s not even in New York.

It’s amazing in New York how a trip to a different neighborhood can feel like a different country. This is Little Odessa in Brooklyn. Russian signs, stores, and people were everywhere. The area even had communist looking buildings. I’m fascinated by Eastern Europe so I made a special trip to eat some pirogies and hear some Slavic languages.

Nathan’s hot dogs in Brooklyn is home to the annual hot dog eating contest. A small Japanese man nicknamed the Tsunami usually wins by eating about 50 hot dogs in 12 minutes. I’ve heard that skinny people actually have an advantage because their stomachs can expand. A tiny woman usually places fairly high as well as a bunch of fat ass Americans.

Here’s a picture of me next to the bull in Wall Street.

A nightclub in Manhattan. It had a lot of security and was expensive, but when we got inside it appeared like any other club in a big city. There were about 4 huge bouncers guarding the door, wearing ear pieces and acting professional. It was all a bit ridiculous, especially the army commando dude dancing with some chick in this picture.

Times Square, always interesting to see. This picture is from when I worked at a summer camp a couple hours north of the city. We took the train in from Poughkeepsie.

The Trump Tower. Cool building, but I think Donald Trump is the male version of Paris Hilton. Most people don’t know that he inherited hundreds of millions of dollars from his real estate developer father.

It’s interesting how Central Park has lakes, woods, and provides an escape from the hustle of the city.

China Town. I like eating there. It’s cheap and tastes OK. I also like to feel tall walking around there.

New York Stock Exchange. Security is heavy in front of the exchange and around Wall Street. The streets are very narrow and is not ideal for the claustrophobic. Lots of people acting important with cell phones.

A few friends on the subway in NYC.
