I’ve been to Warsaw several times, but spent a weekend there in the summer. It was the only place in Poland that felt like a big city. There were wide streets, tall buildings, and international companies. There is an express train from Krakow that took a bit less than 3 hours. The regular train would have been at least 5. Much of Warsaw was destroyed and its population killed during WWII. It was rebuilt in communist style and except the Old Town, is somewhat ugly. At one time, Chicago had the most Polish people of any city. Now I believe Warsaw has topped them.
At night we went to a strip of outdoor bars setup just for the summer and also to a salsa club. We stayed in a newer apartment in the suburbs. It was at the last stop of the subway.
Below Cristoff and Sarah look at the map and act lost.
The Palace of Culture building is a bit of an eyesore, but does have a good view from the top.

Warsaw’s Old Town is quite nice and has many restaurants, shops and people watching. It did feel a bit touristy.
Monument to the Warsaw Uprising. People tried to fight back against the Nazis but ended up getting slaughtered
