Shivanasamudra is located about 138 kilometers from Bangalore and is actually a hydroelectric project, but is more popular because of its waterfalls. Shivanasamudra literally means “sea of Shiva”. Located on the banks of the Kaveri River, the resort attracts tourists for its magnificent waterfall and picturesque scenery. Some things not to be missed while traveling in this beautiful place are:
Visit the Bharachukki and Gaganachukki Waterfalls:
Shivanasamudra is an island that divides the Kaveri River into two parts. The waterfalls flowing from these two sections are Bharachukkki and Gaganachukki, about one kilometer apart.
The Bharachukki Waterfalls are located at an altitude of about 70 meters and open onto several rocky streams that offer magnificent views. 200 steps lead to the waterfall with rails, to rest the column and the benches. There are opportunities to go to a coral pool at the mouth of the waterfall, which is both exciting and breathtaking. Tourists can stand under a section of the waterfall, where the current is low and enjoy the fresh water shower.
Gaganachukki does not fall into shape and falls from a height of about 90 meters. It forms two streams parallel to each other and then descend from a height of over 97 meters. The currents that are triggered by these high waterfalls are quite strong and the deep gorges are running. The hydroelectric plant is here.
A watchtower is about 15 kilometers from the falls. You can be seen from a mosque called DargahHazrathMardaneGaib, which allows you to see the good branch of the falls.
Fishing and trekking:
The Kaveri rivers are rich in marine life at Shivanasamudra Falls. Here you can fish to catch some of the best and biggest tropical fish.
The rocky slopes and the green landscape of the region make it ideal for hiking. Equip your backpacks with your picnic gear and whet your appetite for a hike. Enjoy a picnic and eat some food and spectacular views.
